Happy Thoughts:

8/31/10

Earl

As if things could get worse today... we are now on high alert and being told by some to prepare for emergency evacuation, get kits together, and have a plan and such. I really hope Earl decides to go another route. I don't know how much I can take. It's a 28 hour drive to get home so that's out of the question. Guess I will have to find a hotel and pray for the dogs and I to be okay. Right now the hurricane is at a category 4, still gaining strength, and expected to hit Wednesday or Thursday in our area. they are hoping it will change direction and not hit, but just the thought is scary enough.

I'm pretty scared. I've never been through anything like this, never expected to have to do it without my husband either. Even if he was already home he'd gt shipped right back out, so I guess it doesn't really make a difference. We don't have things like this where I 'm from in Texas, we don't get hurricanes, or tornadoes, or earthquakes. It doesn't even snow where I'm from.... Please pray with me.

I'm definitely praying with you dearest! I'm freaking out (only a little) about this hurricane because we only get tornadoes in Chicago so I'm totally new with this too! They haven't said anything to us yet but I'm hoping they will at least tell us something by tomorrow. Keep your head up and I'm sure things will be okay!

Sweetie, it will be ok! I grew up in Hampton Roads and we've had some doozies. Just keep your eye on the news, and if they tell you to leave, get outta there!

I will be keeping you in my prayers!

  5. In the 3 years that I've lived here, we haven't had a big hurricane hit. We've had some strong storms, but nothing crazy.

Just be on the alert and remain calm. If we do evacuate I'm driving to my parents. You can come with if you would like.

Praying for you and hoping that your days get better.

    *hugs*

  6. I hope everything will be ok, but if I were you I'd get a little "back-up plan" (ie: hotels and such), that's what my husband's family does every hurricane season, he's from Southern Louisiana. But i hope that the hurricane goes another way. Keep safe!

his answer? "we can go visit mrs. gambizzle."

Apparently he doesnt know where you live!

  9. You are in Va beach right? I might be wrong... But I used to live in Va beach for 10 years and have had many hurricanes actually HIT us.. this hurricane is just passing by. You will experience lots of rain, possibly flooding and a lot of wind! They might even tell you to stock up and board up your windows (depending where you live and how bad it is - this only happened to us when it actually HIT us)

I am used to Hurricanes now, we live NC (about an hour from the beach) and will probably get some rain and wind too. As far as evacuating? I don’t think so.

With all that being said, you will be fine :)

  13. I'm crossing my fingers that it goes away from you. Im originally from Florida and have been through lots of hurricanes. Charlie hit my side of Florida a few years ago and hubs has been through Katrina and then we PCS'ed in a CAT 1 hurricane lol... I know its alot to worry about but try to stay focused and not panic. Work on your plan of where your gonna go and what your gonna take. Your gonna be just fine, really. :)

Virginia's storms are never too bad.. I live in Richmond and you are more than welcome to come hold up with me and my husband for a little bit. We will possibly get some rain but nothing terrible, stay calm, keep food in the house and have a safe spot. All will be well :)

  15. Like everyone else said, I think you'll be fine! I lived here in Norfolk for 3 years (including last year's nor'easter), and now we are scheduled to be MOVING on Friday morning when this thing is the closest! And we're moving to Pensacola, where hurricanes strike with a vengeance! I don't think this one is gonna get bad enough for sortie. Just watch out for flooding streets, especially if you're in Norfolk.

I'll be praying for you and all your neighbors.

  17. Don't worry. They always act like these hurricanes are going to be so big and bad...but they rarely are. Hopefully I'm not going to eat my own words.

I have some romantic R&R plans for this weekend with my Fox, so Earl better die off and go back out to sea!!!!

  18. I'm sorry your dealing with this - cannot be fun! Best advice is to be on the safe side and get out of there. You just never know with storms. Better to safe then stuck in a situation later and not know what to do.
